Record Fall Heat Continues; Big Change Next Week
TOO HOT: Alabama’s weather won’t change much through Friday. Partly to mostly sunny days, fair nights, and record heat levels. Highs will remain well up in the 90s each day; the average high for Birmingham on October 2 is 80. Today’s record high is 93 set in 1904 and 1897; we should beat that by a few degrees. Searing Heat Through Mid-Week; Much Cooler Next Week
REST THE WEEK: The upper high stays in place, and more record heat is likely each day through Friday with highs in the 90s. The sky will remain partly to mostly sunny, and like today, afternoon showers will be few and far between. Continue reading

Heat Wave Rolls Along; Cooler Trend Begins This Weekend

We have a field of fair weather cumulus clouds over the state, and there is nothing on radar. The rain total for the month of September at Birmingham will wind up at 0.56″. We have had measurable rain on only two days this month. Continue reading

ANOTHER HOT ONE: Temperatures are generally in the low to mid 90s across Alabama this afternoon, and like recent days, we have a few isolated showers and thunderstorms. One of those passed over Oxford and Anniston earlier this afternoon, dropping the temperature at the Anniston airport to 79 degrees. Any lingering showers will fade away after sunset. Continue reading
Highs Remain In The 90s Through Next Week
FALL HEAT WAVE ROLLS ALONG: A strong upper ridge of high pressure simply won’t budge much over the next five to seven days, meaning Alabama’s weather won’t change much. Look for partly to mostly sunny days through the weekend with only isolated afternoon and evening showers or storms; odds of any one place seeing rain will remain in the 10-20 percent range. Highs will remain generally in the mid 90s… right at record levels for this time of the year. Continue reading
Highs Hold In The 90s Through The Weekend
STILL HOT: Temperatures are mostly in the low to mid 90s across Alabama this afternoon with a partly sunny sky. We have a few small, isolated showers on radar, but most places stay dry, and those isolated showers will end once the sun goes down later this evening. Continue reading
Summer Weather Continues In Early Fall
HOT AFTERNOONS: A strong ridge in the upper atmosphere will remain parked across the Deep South through the weekend, meaning little change in the Alabama weather situation. Partly sunny days, fair nights, and only isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Odds of any one spot getting a shower each afternoon will remain in the 10-20 percent range, and afternoon highs will be in the mid 90s, a good 10-12 degrees above average for late September in Alabama. Continue reading
A Few Isolated Showers This Afternoon

Most places remain dry, and away from the showers temperatures are in the low to mid 80s. The average high for September 25 at Birmingham is 82, and the record high is 98 set in 2016.
