Showers Fewer In Number So Far This Afternoon
RADAR CHECK: Most of the showers and thunderstorms are over the southwest part of Alabama this afternoon in a broad zone from Livingston and Demopolis south to Mobile. Still, a few showers or storms could form over North/Central Alabama from now through about 10:00 tonight. The sky is partly sunny with temperatures in the upper 80s and low 80s for most communities. SCATTERED AFTERNOON STORMS: Look for hot, muggy weather again today across Alabama with a partly sunny sky and afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 90s. Like yesterday, scattered, random, slow moving showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and tonight in the unstable air; odds of any one spot getting wet are 30/40 percent. Hot Afternoon; Low Humidity
DRY AIR: Temperatures are generally between 90 and 97 degrees across Alabama this afternoon, but the air is very dry with dew points down in the 50s in many areas. At 2:30p CT the Shelby County Airport was up to 97 degrees, but the dew point was down to 51, making the relative humidity only 21 percent. Amazingly low for summer in Alabama. A “Dry Heat” For Alabama
BLUE SKY: We have a fall-like sky over Alabama today, but summer-like temperatures. We are seeing mostly mid 90s at mid-afternoon, but the dew point at Birmingham has dropped to 61 degrees, with a relative humidity of only 32 percent.
