Hit And Miss Storms Again This Afternoon
CLASSIC SUMMER PATTERN CONTINUES THIS WEEK: This is a new day, but we have an old forecast to deliver. We start the day with a mostly sunny sky this morning, but during the afternoon and evening hours, random, scattered showers and thunderstorms will form in the moist, unstable airmass. Most of them will come from 1:00 until 9:00 p.m… and odds of any one spot getting wet are around 30 percent. The high will be in 89-92 degree range for most communities. Continue reading

Hot, Humid Weather With Scattered Storms
TIS THE SEASON: Alabama’s weather won’t change much through the weekend. Look for the typical summer weather… hot humid days with a mix of sun and clouds, and scattered, random showers and thunderstorms. Most of the storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, although a late night or morning shower sure can’t be ruled out. No way of knowing in advance when and where the storms fire up; you just have to keep a close eye on radar trends if you have something planned outside. Afternoon highs will be in the 88-92 degree range today through Sunday. Continue reading
Scattered Storms Fire Up Again Later Today
SUN, HEAT, STORMS: Alabama will be in a routine summer weather for the foreseeable future. The main westerly winds aloft over North America are well to the north, but the daytime heating process makes the air over Alabama unstable, and once again we will deal with random, scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. SPC has introduced a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for areas north and west of a line from Linden to Calera to Scottsboro. Continue reading

MUGGY SUMMER DAYS: In the moist air over Alabama we have showers on radar at daybreak over parts of North and Central Alabama… they are moving eastward, and won’t last long. More scattered showers or storms could form this afternoon and this evening; odds of any one spot getting wet will be about one in four. Otherwise, expect a mix of sun and clouds today with a high close to 90. Continue reading

Afternoon Storms Mainly Over South Alabama Today
HOT, MUGGY DAY AHEAD: Look for a high around 90 degrees this afternoon with a partly sunny sky; any shower later today over the northern half of the state should be pretty isolated. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms are a bit more likely over the southern half of the state; SPC has a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) defined for areas south of a line from near Eutaw to Fort Deposit to Abbeville. Continue reading
Strong Storms Forming Over East Alabama; Drier Tomorrow
RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers and strong thunderstorms are forming over Northeast Alabama this afternoon… mostly east of I-65, and north of I-20. Heavier storms are producing gusty winds and frequent lightning as they move eastward.
