Occasional Rain Through Friday
HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN: A deep storm system to the west of Alabama will bring more wet weather to the state over the next few days… we note some light rain on radar early this morning over the northwest counties. Otherwise, we begin the day with a cloudy sky; temperatures are in the 40s over North Alabama, but we are seeing 60s over the far southern counties south of a stalled surface front. Continue reading
More Rain Ahead For Alabama
RADAR CHECK: Showers continue across parts of Southeast Alabama… generally south of a line from Lafayette to Prattville to Camden. For the rest of the state, the sky is generally cloudy with a few breaks in the overcast. Temperatures are generally in the 60s. Continue reading
Clouds Hanging Tough; More Rain On The Way
HAPPY NEW YEAR! On this first day of 2019, we begin with a cloudy sky across the state with areas of fog and drizzle. The best chance of signifiant rain today will over the southern part of Alabama, south of a stalled front near U.S. 84. The sun might peek out at times over North Alabama this afternoon, but the day will be mostly cloudy with a high in the 60s. Southeast Alabama will see 70s today (Dothan is at 70 degrees just before daybreak). Continue reading
Strong/Severe Storms Possible Later Today
ACTIVE DAY TO WRAP UP 2018: Temperatures are mostly in the mild 60s across Alabama early this morning, and we project a high in the 70-74 degree range for most of the state this afternoon. The late December warmth will help to create an unstable atmosphere, and with the approach of a storm system, we will have potential for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and into early tonight. Continue reading
Brighter, Warmer Day Tomorrow
RAW, COLD, CLOUDY DAY: The rain across Alabama has ended, but clouds linger statewide. Add to that temperatures only in the upper 30s and low 40s, and a strong north wind, and this is certainly not a “Chamber of Commerce” … Continue reading
Rain Ending Later Today; Cold And Windy
STILL WET THIS MORNING: A large mass of rain continues across Alabama this morning; the rain will end from west to east in coming hours as a complex storm system begins to lift away. Strong northwest winds will develop as the pressure gradient tightens… averaging 12-25 mph with occasionally higher gusts. Clouds will linger through the afternoon, and unfortunately temperatures will go nowhere. In fact, they will slowly fall, and some communities over North Alabama could reach the upper 30s this afternoon. It will be a raw, cold, and blustery day. Continue reading
Windy And Colder Tomorrow; Brighter Saturday
WET: Clouds cover all of Alabama this afternoon with rain, mostly light to moderate, over a decent part of the state. Periods of rain will continue tonight and tomorrow morning as a deepening low pressure center begins to lift away. Continue reading
Wet Today; Windy/Colder Tomorrow
WET IS THE WORD: A deep upper trough and the attendant surface low will bring periods of rain to all of Alabama today and tonight; temperatures will be mostly in the 50s. No risk of severe thunderstorms for our state, but parts of Central and South Florida could see some rough weather late today… there is an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) from Tampa and Orlando south to Lake Okeechobee later today. Continue reading
Wet Through Friday; Much Colder Friday
ON THE MAPS: A rather vigorous storm system continues to organize west of Alabama this afternoon; the sky is now mostly cloudy over the state. Rain is fairly widespread over the western half of Mississippi, and that late rain mass moves into Alabama tonight. We expect lots of rain statewide through tomorrow as a surface low passes through the southern part of the state; thankfully there will be no issues with severe storms around here. Continue reading
Rain Arrives Tonight; Drier Air By The Weekend
HERE COMES THE RAIN: Clouds will slowly increase across Alabama today, but the day should be dry with a high in the low 60s. Rain will push into the state tonight ahead of a storm system to the west, and tomorrow will be a wet day with rain likely statewide. Some thunder is possible, mainly over the southern half of the state, but there is no risk of severe storms. Temperatures tomorrow will hold in the 50s over the northern half of the state, with 60s for South Alabama. Continue reading
