Cold and Wet Today; Brighter Weather By Friday
MORE COLD RAIN: A deep, cold core upper low over Northeast Texas will lift out today, bringing widespread rain to Alabama over the next 24 hours. It will be a cold rain with temperatures holding in the 30s and 40s all day; keep in mind our average high is in the mid 60s in the middle of November. Rain amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch are likely, not enough for any really significant flooding issues. Continue reading
Cold, Wet, Soggy Weather Continues
COLD NOVEMBER DAY: Temperatures have been slowly falling across Alabama today; at 3:00 Cullman has dropped to 38 degrees with a thick cloud cover… most other North/Central Alabama communities are in the 40-45 degree range. Cold, Wet Weather Through Thursday
COLD, DAMP, SOGGY: An upper trough is hanging back to the west of Alabama, and we remain in a broad southwest flow aloft with a moist airmass below. Cloudy and cold weather continues today with light rain/drizzle at times. A warm front is over the extreme southern part of the state, and we have some 60s near the Florida state line early this morning, but cold air will eventually push southward later today and tonight. For North/Central Alabama, most communities will hold in the 45-50 degree range all day. Continue reading
Cold, Wet Weather Continues Through Mid-Week
COLD SOAKER: As advertised, just about every square inch of Alabama has been soaked today. With a broad upper trough to the west, a warm front to the south, and a very moist airmass in place, we will continue to forecast rain for North Alabama tonight, with potential for strong storms over far South Alabama, near the warm front. A tornado watch remains in effect for Deep South Alabama until 7pm CT. Continue reading
Soaking, Cold Rain Today
WET IS THE WORD: Just about every square inch of Alabama should see a soaking rain during the first half of this week. A broad surface low will move along the Gulf Coast region today; rain is widespread this morning, and rain continues tonight into at least part of the day tomorrow. The air just off the coast is unstable, and as that lifts into far South Alabama a few severe storms are possible there today. A tornado watch is in effect until 12 noon for Mobile and Baldwin counties. Continue reading
Freeze Warning For Much Of North Alabama
HERE COMES THE COLD AIR: As forecast, temperatures have been falling across much of North Alabama this afternoon in the wake of a cold front that passed through earlier today; rain continues south and east of the front. The rain will continue to end over the next few hours, and the sky will clear from the northwest. By daybreak tomorrow, much of North Alabama will be at or below 32 degrees, and a freeze warning remains in effect. Continue reading
Rain This Morning, Then Falling Temperatures
WET START: Rain is fairly widespread across Alabama early this morning ahead of a cold front about to enter the northwest corner of the state. Temperatures are between 55 and 60 degrees across the northern and central counties of the state, and this will be pretty much the high of the day. The rain will end during the midday hours, northwesters winds will increase, and temperatures will fall into the 40s by mid to late afternoon. Continue reading

RADAR CHECK: We are seeing some patchy light rain over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon… heavier thunderstorms are over South Alabama, south of a stalled surface front. Temperatures are in the 50s over North Alabama, but Dothan, down in the southeast corner of the state, reported 81 degrees earlier this afternoon. Some rain remains possible tonight across the state with a cloudy sky. Continue reading

There is a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe storms over Southeast Alabama today below a stalled surface front. Continue reading
Cloudy, Rain At Times Through Friday
RADAR CHECK: A large mass of rain and thunderstorms is pushing out of Alabama this afternoon; most communities picked up around one inch… we had a report of 1.61″ at Lafayette in Chambers County. In addition to the rain we have a big thermal contrast across the state thanks to a stalled front over South Alabama. Dothan and Mobile are in the low 80s, but north of the front temperatures are in the 50s over the northern counties of the state. Continue reading
