Eyes On Alberto
ALBERTO IS ON THE BOARD: Subtropical storm Alberto formed this morning over the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico… a “subtropical storm” is a hybrid between a classical warm core tropical storm, and a mid latitude storm system, like the ones we see in the cool season. Sustained winds are 40 mph, and the system will move up into the Gulf of Mexico over the holiday weekend. Steering currents will collapse and the system will just creep along Sunday and Monday toward the coast. Continue reading

Eyes Remain On The Gulf Of Mexico
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: For the northern two-thirds of the state, little change tomorrow and Sunday. Warm, humid, the sun out at times, and more scattered showers and thunderstorms. Most of the showers will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but a late night or morning shower can’t be ruled out completely. Highs will remain in the 80s. But, Monday will be breezy with rain becoming more widespread as a tropical system approaches from the south. Continue reading
Tropical Depression Expected To Form In The Gulf
TOMORROW/SATURDAY: No real change in our weather. Warm, very humid, and we will deal with scattered showers and storms. They form in random places, and there is no way of knowing far in advance when and where they will pop up; you just have to keep an eye on radar trends. Most of the showers and storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but we can’t rule out a late night or morning shower in this airmass. Away from the storms, we will have a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 80s. Continue reading
Scattered Storms; Tropical Trouble Ahead
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Our weather won’t change much Saturday; warm and humid with a mixture of clouds and sun along with scattered showers and thunderstorms, most likely during the afternoon and evening hours. The high will be in the mid 80s. Beyond that, our weather will be determined by the behavior of a tropical system in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Continue reading
Warm, Humid, Scattered Storms, Watching The Gulf
TOMORROW/FRIDAY: While a few scattered storms are still possible tomorrow, it could be the driest day of the week as the air aloft should be a little warmer, and the air a bit more stable. With a partly sunny sky we reach the 87-90 degree range by afternoon, and the chance of any one spot getting wet is only about one in five. Then, on Friday, showers and storms should become more numerous as the air aloft cools. The high Friday will be in the mid 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. Continue reading
Scattered Showers/Storms Stay In The Forecast
TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY: The overall pattern won’t change. Very moist air hangs over Alabama, and we will deal with scattered showers and thunderstorms on a daily basis. Most of them will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but in this pattern we can’t rule out a late night or morning shower. Showers and storms will be totally random, and we can’t tell you far in advance where they will form. And, with fairly light winds aloft they won’t move quickly, and some spots could see heavy amounts of rain, while other neighborhoods are dry. Continue reading
Tropical Moisture Hangs Around; More Showers/Storms
RADAR CHECK: At mid-afternoon showers and storms are fairly widespread over the eastern half of Alabama; there is little movement and some places are getting heavy amounts of rain. Showers have been limited over the western counties of the state so far, but they could develop there at any time through tonight. Temperatures are in the 70s and 80s… Continue reading
Soggy Airmass Over Alabama; Eyes On The Gulf
MUGGY LATE MAY DAYS: Alabama’s weather won’t change much through Friday as moist, unstable air hangs over the Deep South. Today we project a mostly cloudy sky with scattered to numerous showers and storms; temperatures will struggle to reach the low 80s with only a limited amount of sun. Then, tomorrow through Friday, the sun will be out at times, but once again we will deal with scattered showers and storms, most active during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs should be in the low to mid 80s on these three days. Continue reading
