Warmer Days Ahead; Rain/Storms Return Thursday
WARMER DAYS: The wedge of colder air that covered much of Alabama yesterday will begin to break down today; we should rise into the 60s this afternoon. The sky will remain generally cloudy, but the chance of a shower for any one given location is fairly small. The high tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 70s, and some places could touch 80 degrees where the sun can peek out for a while. A shower is possible tomorrow in a few spots, but many places will stay dry. Continue reading

Much Cooler Today; Some Patchy Light Rain
WEDGE FRONT: Yesterday featured a huge thermal contrast across Alabama; the northeast corner of the state barely got out of the 40s, while parts of West Alabama flirted with 80 degree warmth. Cold air damming (CAD) was responsible for this; a pattern where cold air slips down the backbone of the Appalachian Mountains and into East Alabama. The wedge will be deeper today, and much of North and Central Alabama will hold in the 50s all day. Continue reading
A Few Weekend Showers

Warmer This Weekend; A Few Showers
ANOTHER CHILLY START: Temperatures are near the freezing mark over East Alabama this morning, it is not as cold over the western counties where we are seeing mostly 40s. We actually have a few echoes on radar over the western half of the state at daybreak, but most of that is not reaching the ground. Other than a few sprinkles, today should be dry with a mix of sun and clouds; we rise into the 60-65 degree range this afternoon. Continue reading
A Few Showers By The Weekend
COLD MORNING: Temperatures are generally at or below freezing over the northern third of the state this morning with a clear sky and light wind; with a good supply of sunshine today we project a high at or just over 60 degrees this afternoon. Tonight will be cold again, but most places stay above freezing with a low in the mid to upper 30s. Colder pockets, however, will reach the low 30s again. Continue reading
Freeze Warning Tonight

WINDY/COOL DAY AHEAD: Temperatures are in the mid 30s across most of North/Central Alabama early this morning, although a few spots have dropped to freezing. Just before daybreak Cullman reports 32 degrees. We have a northwest wind of 6-12 mph, and accordingly no frost issues. Today will be sunny and cool with a strong northwest wind averaging 15-25 mph. Continue reading

CALMING DOWN: After a night of destructive hail and tornadoes, the weather has calmed across Alabama this morning. NWS survey teams will be out today assessing storm damage; some of the most serious tornado damage is at Jacksonville in Calhoun County, and Southside in Etowah County. Hail damage is extensive in places like Cullman. Continue reading
Severe Storms Likely Later Today/Tonight
ENHANCED RISK: SPC maintains an “enhanced risk” of severe weather for much of North Alabama, generally north of I-20… north of a line from Tuscaloosa to Columbiana to Sylacauga to Ranburne. The standard “slight risk” is up down to York, Monroeville, and Andalusia, and a “marginal risk” covers Southwest Alabama, places like Mobile and Gulf Shores. Continue reading
