Heat Levels Come Down By The Weekend
An upper high, anchored over the nation’s mid-section which represents the center of the hot air, has expanded into Alabama, and that will keep afternoon highs up in the mid 90s today. Combine that with high dew points and that will make for another very uncomfortable day. A few showers and storms will form this afternoon, but they will be widely scattered, like yesterday. RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers and storms are very isolated across Alabama this afternoon; they aren’t moving much, and will fade after sunset. Continue reading
Heat Levels Creeping Up
HOT SUMMER WEATHER: An upper ridge over the nation’s mid-section is expanding, and that will bring the hottest weather so far this summer to Alabama in coming days. We project a high in the low 90s today, followed by mid 90s tomorrow and Friday. Up until now our hottest day of the year was on June 15 when the high was 93. Continue reading
Hot Summer Days Ahead
QUIET AFTERNOON: As expected, showers and storms have really thinned out across the northern half of Alabama this afternoon. Strong Storms This Afternoon

With a moist, unstable airmass in place, we will see another day with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mostly between 1:00 and 8:00 p.m. Best coverage will be along and south of I-20, and any one spot there will have about a one in three chance of getting wet. Showers will be pretty hard to find up north over the Tennessee Valley. Continue reading
More Scattered Storms Over The Weekend
RADAR CHECK: A number of scattered showers and storms have fired up across Alabama on this mid-summer afternoon; they are moving slowly to the north, and are producing heavy rain and lots of lightning. Continue reading
Afternoon Storms A Bit More Numerous Through Sunday
Things are mostly quiet across Alabama this morning with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. Moisture is a bit deeper across Alabama today, and the air aloft is slightly colder, meaning the air is more unstable. This should mean a general uptick in the number of scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening. Continue reading
Scattered Storms A Little More Numerous Tomorrow
RADAR CHECK: Classic July afternoon across Alabama… looks like the radar has measles. Widely scattered showers and storms are most active along and north of I-59, moving slowly to the north/northeast. Continue reading
