RAIN OVER EAST ALABAMA: The rain over the northern half of the state is now generally east of I-65, and all of the wet weather should be out of Alabama by 6:00 p.m. or so. You can clearly see the position of the cold front across our state; at 2:00 south of the front it was a mild 74 at Montgomery, but north of the front the temperature has fallen to 47 at Haleyville.

We have noted a few peeks of sun back over Northwest Alabama in the cooler air, but those are pretty much sucker holes since thicker clouds extend well back into North Mississippi and West Tennessee. The clouds should linger tonight statewide as colder air continues to filter into the state.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Any lingering clouds tomorrow morning should break up soon, giving way to a partly to mostly sunny afternoon. The high will be generally in the low 60s with a cool breeze through the day.

Saturday and Sunday still look very nice, with sunny cool days and clear chilly nights. Latest model data suggests highs in the 65-69 degree range both days, but the air over East Alabama could be cooler due to the CAD (cold air damming) effect. Would not be shocked if highs near the Mississippi border were around 70, but closer to 60 on the Georgia border.

NEXT WEEK: The next significant rain event will come late Tuesday night or Wednesday… the 12Z GFS has backed off a bit on the intensity of the incoming system, but still way too early to be really specific, and we will continue to monitor that one for signs of severe weather potential. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up on Saturday, November 12 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!

I enjoyed speaking at the Emergency Physicians Association of Alabama meeting today in Hoover… there were many ED physicians and first responders in that room that were real heroes on April 27. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow….
