THIS AFTERNOON: As expected, there have been no travel issues or significant snow accumulation reports across Alabama today as a strong impulse aloft worked across North Alabama. The bulk of the snow is now out of Alabama, but we will maintain some risk of drizzle or flurries this evening. The day has been cold and raw, and many communities are hovering in the upper 30s at mid afternoon, about 15 to 20 degrees below average values for early December in Alabama.

BRIGHTER DAYS: The sky will clear late tonight, and we are expecting sunny cool days and fair cold nights tomorrow through the weekend. The high will be in the 50s tomorrow and Friday, but we drop into the 40s Saturday thanks to a new surge of colder air dropping into the state. The coldest morning should come early Sunday, when mid 20s are likely.

And, the new 12Z GFS confirms the idea of dry weather holding through Wednesday of next week. That run hints our next big rain event might be in the December 16-17 time frame… as usual see the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
