A terrific afternoon will turn into a a pretty fair evening across Alabama. It has been breezy this afternoon with sustained winds of 10-20 mph and gusts to over 30 mph at times. A new air mass has moved into the state behind a front that moved in earlier today. Other than that, it has been a mild and sunny afternoon. Temps have ranged from near 70 along the Gulf Coast, to low 60s along Interstate 20, and upper 50s over the Tennessee Valley.
There are a few areas of clouds still working across the state. One area of cloud cover is along and north of U.S. Highway 278 across northern Alabama. The other main batch of clouds is down in southeastern Alabama near Dothan. Over the next few hours these clouds will be out of here.
Heading into the evening hours the winds will lessen to the 5-10 mph range and the sky will continue to clear. By later tonight we expect a crystal clear sky over Central Alabama. With a new air mass, clear skies, and a lighter winds we will see our temps begin to drop rapidly once the sun sets. There should be no weather related issues this evening or through the overnight. We expect by tomorrow morning, our temps will be in the mid-30s.
Sunday will be a great weather day for Alabama. The weather we had this afternoon is what we expect all day tomorrow. Sunny skies and a high near 60. Not at all a bad day for mid-January.
