The attention for the last several days has been the heavy rain situation that was setting up across western sections of the Lower Mississippi River Valley, mainly Arkansas, Louisiana, and eastern Texas. And today the clouds from that system finally advanced eastward into Alabama.

I has the opportunity to take in a movie this afternoon and I went in with sunshine and came out to overcast skies, quite the contrast in just two hours or so.

Additional rain continued to fall this afternoon in a band stretching in a broad band from South Texas northeastward to extreme western Kentucky. According to National Weather Service analysis of rainfall for the 24-hours ending this morning at 6 am, between 5 and 10 inches of rain has fallen over portions of northern Louisiana and extreme northeastern Texas.

As we noted over the weekend, this system was going to be slow to advance eastward, and that is just what we’re seeing. After a string of nice weekends, I guess a wet one won’t be too bad.
