Strong high pressure over Alabama is producing a very stable airmass.

Unfortunately, stable can quickly become stagnant, and that will be the case this time as well.

The Alabama Partners for Clean Air have issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Friday for Jefferson and Shelby counties.

The culprit is ozone.

Some actions you can take to help the situation include:

…carpooling or taking the bus
…postpone unnecessary travel – combine errands
…limit idling/avoid drive thrus
…mow the lawn another day
…don’t burn leaves or trash
…don’t fill you gas tank until after 6 p.m.
