HOW ABOUT THOSE LOWS: Birmingham’s official low this morning was 18 degrees… beating the old November 28 record low of 20 set in 1950. Records were also set at Anniston with 19, and Montgomery with 23. Coldest place I could find this morning was Russellville with 14 degrees… it was 15 at Haleyville, Valley Head, and Black Creek.
This afternoon we have sunshine through high clouds and temperatures mostly in the mid 40s. Lots of cool sky optics today because of the cirrus clouds, which are ice crystals. Below is a sun dog taken in Kinston from @johngregg81
COLD AGAIN TONIGHT: But, not as cold as last night. Most places will reach the mid 20s, although colder valleys over Northeast Alabama will probably drop into the upper teens again.
TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: Our weather gradually turns warmer. We reach the mid to upper 50s tomorrow, with upper 50s likely Saturday and Sunday. All three days will feature a good supply of sunshine, although clouds will increase a bit by Sunday afternoon. Keep in mind the average high here is 60 degrees over the last few days of November.
IRON BOWL: Excellent day for the biggest college football game of the year in Alabama. Lots of sunshine Saturday in Auburn; for the 2:30p CT kickoff the temperature will be around 57 degrees, falling back into the low 50s by the final whistle. Wind will be out of the south at 6-12 mph.
NEXT WEEK: Short wave energy should squeeze out a little light rain Monday, but moisture will be very limited so this won’t be a bit rain event. Then, mid-week looks dry and comfortable with a high around 60 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
