Just bfore 2 o’clock this afternoon, a cold front was trying to push into NW Alabama. Ahead of it is an area of showers and even a few thunderstorms. Not much lightning activity, however.
Most of the showers were north of a line that runs from North Pickens County in West Alabama to just north of Birmingham and to near Oneonta and Guntersville.
The showers were moving NE but the whole batch was slowly shifting SE ahead of the front.
Fayette has received 0.68 of an inch of rain so far today after an October total that exceeded nine inches!
Sharp temperature contrast this afternoon. Just look at this row of early afternoon temperatures starting in the south and headed north and northwest:
82 in Verbena (near Montgomery)
79 in Montgomery and Evergreen
76 in Tuscaloosa, 75 in Birmingham
64 in Columbus, Miss.
45 in Memphis
41 in Paducah, Ky.
So, people to our north are wearing coats this afternoon.
Look for low temperatures close to the freezing mark in Birmingham when you crawl out of bed Friday morning.
