RIGHT NOW: Most of the rain has moved out of the Alabama as the deep upper low pulls away to the northeast. Temperatures are generally in the 50 to 55 degree range with clouds hanging tough over the northern counties of the state. We do note the sun is shining down in far South Alabama. Clouds will stick around tonight with temperatures dropping into the low 40s.

TOMORROW: The real surge of cold air move into the state tomorrow. We will hold in the 40s all day, and temperatures should begin to fall during the afternoon hours with a brisk northwest wind. And, just for fun, the RPM continues to show light snow or snow flurries for much of North Alabama during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will be above freezing, so there won’t be any travel issues or serious accumulation. Just maybe some chance a heavier snow shower might bring a dusting to some place up on Sand or Lookout Mountain. Certainly a big change from the mild weather we have enjoyed in recent days.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The temperature will drop down into the low 20s early Friday with a clear sky, and despite a good supply of sunshine Friday the high will be only in the low 40s. Some communities over North Alabama could hold in the 30s all day. The sky will remain sunny Saturday and Sunday with highs getting back into the low to mid 50s.

NEXT WEEK: Not much change in the overall thinking. Monday will be dry, but showers return to the state Tuesday thanks to a passing cold front. The weather turns a bit colder Wednesday, but nothing excessively cold for mid-January in Alabama.

And, still no sign of any serious snow or ice issues through the rest of January. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas and details.

I had a really good time today seeing the 6th graders at East Elementary in Cullman… they presented me with a thick book of letters written by the students on their experience on April 27… very riveting and I am so thankful for it. Be watching for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News!

The next Weather Xtreme video will be posted here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow….
