RADAR CHECK: We begin the day with light to moderate rain falling at daybreak in a broad zone from Linden to Clanton to Anniston. Most of the rain in the Birmingham metro is over Shelby County, and the showers are moving northeast. The rain will end from the west later today, and by mid-afternoon most all of the rain will in Georgia as drier air takes over. The sun should peek through this afternoon in many places, and today’s high will be around 80 degrees.

REST OF THE WEEK AND THE WEEKEND: Dry weather is the story, with mostly sunny pleasant days and fair cool nights. Highs will be in the 80 to 84 degree range, with morning lows between 58 and 62 for most communities. No rain for high school or college football games.

NEXT WEEK: A weakening front will bring just a small risk of a shower Sunday night, Monday, and Tuesday. The chance of rain is pretty small, and barely worth mentioning in the forecast for now. The bottom line is that a very benign, quiet weather pattern is the story for the next seven days.

LONG RANGE: The GFS continues to develop a deep upper trough/closed low northwest of Alabama around October 5-6 with potential for rain and colder temperatures; see the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

TROPICS: All remains very calm across the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.

AT THE BEACH: Showers will end today, and the weather looks great tomorrow through Sunday on the Gulf Coast from Panama City to Gulf Shores, with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs will be in the 80s, and the sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 80 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
