The first Tornado Watch has been issued in connection with this upcoming severe weather event. The Tornado Watch is in effect until 7 PM, CST, for:

* Much of South Louisiana
* Small part of SW Mississippi
* Adjacent Coastal Waters

The NWS in Lake Charles has already issued several Tornado Warnings.

No problems in Alabama for this afternoon.

The NWS has all of Alabama under a risk of severe weather tomorrow including a “moderate risk” from about the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham-Anniston line southward.

Ironically, tomorrow is the anniversary of a tragic tornado that ripped through South Huntsville late in the afternoon of November 15, 1989.

It was a powerful F4 tornado and unfortunately it struck during the afternoon rush hour. It first touched down on Redstone Arsenal and later tore across Memorial Parkway, a heavily traveled north-south artery through Huntsville.

* 21 persons were killed
* 463 were injured
* 12 of the 21 fatalities were in automobiles since it was the rush hour.

I distinctly remember James Spann doing live weather at noon next day at the site in Huntsville, with snow flurries swirling all over the place!
