The flash flood warning for Jefferson and Shelby Counties has been extended to 5 a.m.
WEA alerts sounded on most people’s phones because the warning is still carrying a catastrophic tag. And the flooding has been catastrophic for many with water in homes and calls for water rescues. Pelham has been especially hard hit, up through Hoover and Vestavia. There are many stranded vehicles.
I measured 3.96 inches just off Acton Road and I-459. Homes on Laurel View Lane along Little Shades Creek had 3-4 feet of water in them.
While the heavy rain has moved east of the warning polygon, extensive flooding is ongoing. There is substantial debris and flowing water still across some roads. Play it safe and stay home until daylight reveals the extent of the damage and the waters recede.
