RADAR CHECK: We have a large mass of light rain over the northern third of Alabama early this morning; this will fade quickly and most of the state will be dry during the late morning hours.

Then, random, scattered showers and thunderstorms will fire up again this afternoon in the ocean of humidity across the Deep South. It won’t rain everywhere, but a few spots could see a good downpour with lightning/thunder. Today’s high will be in the mid 80s for most communities.

TOMORROW AND THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND: The weather won’t change much. Very warm, very humid, highs in the 80s, and the daily round of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

*Is there a chance of some rain everyday through Memorial Day? Yes.
*Will it rain all day on any given day? No.
*Will it rain everywhere each day? No.

Some get soaked from a passing storm, but some places get nothing. Most, but not all, of the showers will come from about 2:00 until 10:00 p.m.

You will see some sun, they will get the games in, and the big festivals and events will go on. But, just be ready for a rain/lightning delay, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: The pattern holds. Warm, humid days with showers and storms around daily, mostly during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs remain in the 80s… See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

SEC BASEBALL: The annual SEC baseball tournament continues through Sunday in Hoover. Each day there is the risk of a few passing showers or storms, mainly during the 2:00-10:00 p.m. window. They get the games in, but a rain/lightning delay is certainly possible each day. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 80s.

ON THIS DATE IN 1987: An F2 tornado moved through parts of Double Springs, in Winston County. One man died while visiting a construction site. One school was damaged, one automobile was destroyed, and a construction site was destroyed.

Look for the next video briefing here by 3:00 this afternoon… enjoy the day!
