DRY: Not much change in the Alabama weather situation through the weekend. Sunny pleasant days, clear cool nights. Highs in the 77-82 degree range through Friday, then in the mid to upper 70s Saturday and Sunday.

The long dry spell continues next week with afternoon highs close to 80 degrees on most days. Next chance of rain for the state will come in early November… See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: A storm-force non-tropical low pressure area (Invest 93L) located a few hundred miles off the mid-Atlantic United States coast is producing some shower and thunderstorm activity primarily west and northwest of its center. Satellite imagery indicates that the low is still frontal. Over the next day or two, the low could gradually lose its frontal features while it moves slowly north-northeastward over the Gulf Stream, allowing the system to briefly develop subtropical characteristics. By the end of the week, the system is expected to accelerate northeastward away from the the eastern United States, and environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for additional subtropical or tropical development.

Regardless of the status of the system, high winds, coastal flooding, and dangerous surf are expected along portions of the U.S. East Coast during the next few days. The chance of this becoming a sub-tropical storm is 40 percent. The rest of the Atlantic basin, including the Gulf, is very quiet.

RACE WEEKEND: The weather could not be better for race weekend at Talladega. Sunny, comfortable afternoons, clear, cool nights. Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 70s, morning lows in the upper 40s and low 50s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn hosts LSU Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium (11:00a CT kickoff)… the sky will be sunny with temperatures rising from near 72 at kickoff to around 76 degrees by the final whistle.

Alabama will host Texas A&M Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff)… a sunny sky over Tuscaloosa with temperatures in the mid 70s for the first half, falling into the upper 60s by the end of the game.

The weather looks great for all the other home game in Alabama Saturday/Saturday night. Afternoon highs in the 70s, temperatures falling into the 60s and 50s after sunset.

ON THIS DATE IN 1988: Hurricane Joan, the last hurricane of the season, neared the coast of Nicaragua packing 125 mph winds. Joan claimed more than 200 lives as she moved over Central America, and total damage approached 1.5 billion dollars. Crossing more than 40 degrees of longitude, Hurricane Joan never strayed even one degree from the 12-degree north parallel. After crossing Central America into the Pacific, the cyclone was renamed Tropical Storm Miriam, with the system’s dissipation occurring southwest of Mexico.

Just one video briefing today due to travel… but I will post fresh forecast notes here this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
