WARMEST MAY DAY SO FAR: We are forecasting a high of 84 degrees today… if we achieve that it will be the warmest day so far in May, and our warmest day since April 10 when the high was 87. Can’t totally rule out a few isolated showers late today, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is only about one in ten.
SHOWERS RETURN TOMORROW: Clouds will increase statewide tonight, and showers should develop over our state tomorrow as deeper moisture moves northward. Showers could very well enter West Alabama tomorrow morning, with rain becoming more likely tomorrow afternoon. We might have a thunderstorm or two as the air will be somewhat unstable, but no severe weather. The high tomorrow will be in the 77-81 degree range. The risk of showers and storms will continue tomorrow night.
SHOWERY SATURDAY: On the positive side, it won’t rain all day, and there is no real significant risk of severe weather. And, rain won’t be all that heavy (amount generally less than one-half inch). But, no doubt it will rain at times Saturday, and some thunder is possible. If you have outdoor plans, just be ready for some rain at times. The high will be in the mid to upper 70s. The rain ends Saturday night, and clearing begins after midnight as drier and cooler air works into the state.
SUNNY MOTHER’S DAY: Sunday should be a delightful day, with ample sunshine, low humidity, a fresh breeze, and a high in the low to mid 70s.
ANOTHER MAY CHILL: We are projecting lows down in the 40s Monday and Tuesday morning of next week… most places around here will drop into the 41-44 degree range, but some of the normally colder pockets could reach the upper 30s at daybreak Tuesday, something that rarely happens in mid-May in Alabama. The record low Tuesday (May 14) is 41 set in 1971… we will be very close to that. But, generally speaking the first half of next week will be very pleasant with the dry, continental air in place. The high Monday and Tuesday will be in the 70s, with low 80s returning Wednesday.
THE LAND OF VOODOO: For the first time in a long time, the GFS (00z run) is showing a severe weather look here on May 24, but we all know that will probably change. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
