Had a great ride down to Orange Beach/Gulf Shores yesterday…
I took a variation of my “Spann’s Best Way To The Bama Beaches 2007” route…
Below you can see some images captured along the way:
*We dropped by the Sunshine Farms “U Pick Em” strawberry patch down in Chilton County on the last day of the season… still plenty of berries; they seem to be particularly sweet this year.
*We peeked at some of the Chilton County peaches along the way… they seem to be coming along nicely despite the drought. I know the cost of irrigation has to be overwhelming for some farmers.
*What a treat… I rode the Gee’s Bend Ferry across the Alabama River for the first time. We caught the 12 Noon ride from Gee’s Bend over to the Camden side. Totally awesome. I will write more about this when I get back next week.
*The building boom along the Alabama coast continues; ride along Alabama 182 and you might think the crane is the state bird of Alabama (the steel kind of crane!). The weather is excellent down here, but the surf is rough due to the disturbance well to the south.
By the way, thanks for all the comments on Oldshue’s post about places to eat down here. Trust me, we will be checking them out this weekend! We hit Lambert’s coming in yesterday… we might give Lulu’s a shot today for a late lunch.
