AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION…UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHARLESTON SC
711 AM EST TUE NOV 21 2006

…THUNDERSNOW REPORTED IN DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON AND ACROSS CHARLESTON
COUNTY…

UPDATE

SNOW/SLEET HAS BEEN MIXING IN WITH THE RAIN THIS MORNING ACROSS
CHARLESTON COUNTY…INCLUDING DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON. THUNDERSNOW HAS
EVEN BEEN OBSERVED…INCLUDING HERE AT THE OFFICE IN NORTH
CHARLESTON. THIS IS A REMARKABLE EVENT…CONSIDERING THIS IS TO THE
BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE THE EARLIEST SNOWFALL EVER IN CHARLESTON!

ALTHOUGH TEMPERATURES ARE STILL ABOVE FREEZING…GENERALLY IN THE
MID 30S…VERY COLD AIR ALOFT HAS BEEN ABLE TO MIX TO THE
SURFACE…ESPECIALLY IN HEAVIER BANDS OF PRECIPITATION. HAVE ALREADY
ISSUED A SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FOR CHARLESTON AND COASTAL
COLLETON COUNTIES…AND WILL UPDATE THE FORECAST SHORTLY. THE KCHS
HAS BEEN UPDATED TO REFLECT THUNDERSNOW.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT NO ACCUMULATION OF FROZEN PRECIPITATION WILL
OCCUR…ALTHOUGH TRAVEL WILL STILL BE HAZARDOUS DUE TO THE RAIN AND
STRONG WINDS.
