July is my month to renew my license plates. When I go to the Shelby County Services Building to renew my plate, I always take a copy of my amateur radio license so there will be no question that I am a licensed amateur radio operator. Alabama is very generous in allowing amateurs to have their call signs on their plates for a additional fee of only $3 instead of the vanity fee of $50. The clerk mentioned that the amateur radio call sign plates were changing this year along with the regular license plates, so I just figured it would look something like the plate has looked for many years.

Well the plate arrived the other day and was I surprised. I had not seen one in my driving around, so I was very impressed with the colorful look of the new plate. A photo of the new plate is below from my vehicle.
