The rain will persist through the overnight hours. As we have seen all day, the rain is training across the state from southwest to northeast. There is still a fair amount of rain over southeastern Mississippi and that will be lifting north into Central Alabama.
Additional showers and a few storms will likely develop overnight and we are still seeing a lot or reports of thunder with some of the more intense areas of rain. Rest assured, there is no threat of severe weather or wintry precip for Alabama tonight.
With many locations seeing moderate to heavy rain for most of the day, the rainfall totals have added up in a swath parallel to Interstate 59 today. Some areas of the state have not seen any rain today, while most of Central Alabama has seen a soaking. As we look at radar estimates for today, many areas have received 1-3 inches of rain, while some locations across Greene, Hale, Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Chilton, Shelby, and Talladega Counties have seen over 3 inches.
Through the overnight hours, there is still a chance to receive an additional 1-2 inches of rain. Since the rain fell over a long period of time, there are only some isolated reports of minor flooding. The main concern will be all this run-off getting into the creeks and stream across the area, that could cause some significant rises.
