I’m back in Alabama, after a 3-day trip to Savannah, GA for the American Meteorological Society’s 24th Conference on Severe Local Storms, held every 2 years. For pictures from Sunday, including Augusta National Golf Course and the Savannah River DOE Site (both from a legal distance), click here.
We heard some really good presentations…including one on lightning prediction using radar, new modeling techniques, tornadoes, and thunderstorm winds. Kevin Knupp and I both spoke on Monday, on the Super Tuesday Tornado Oubtreak of February 5, 2008. I’ll post a blog later showing how mountains and rivers may affect tornadoes…my topic.
Some pictures are included below. Savannah is a pretty town, with lots of good food. We ate at Paula Deen’s restaurant Monday night…this was some of the only food that has come close to that prepared by my Granny, Estelle Emerson. We saw the riverwalk, and also Tybee Island.
