SUMMER-LIKE WEATHER PATTERN FOR TODAY & FRIDAY
With ridging affecting the southeastern United States, we are actually on the backside of it and we are getting more moisture pumped in from the Gulf of Mexico. Mix that with daytime highs reaching the mid to upper 80s throughout Central Alabama, there is enough instability and moisture available to fire off some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms.

At 11:53 am, we are already seeing some of those showers firing up over the northern parts of the area and up into North Alabama. No lightning with these at this point, but I wouldn’t be surprised that with the temperatures continuing to warm and instability climbing that some thunder will be heard within the next couple of hours… if not sooner.

So for the rest of today and into the early evening hours, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible across the area. Rain chances for any one location will be around 20-30%. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s for most of Central Alabama. We’ll continue to have a small risk of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms across the northern half of the area through the late evening into the late night hours. Lows will be in the 60s.

More showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day on Friday across Central Alabama as this pattern continues with rain chances increasing to the 40-50% range. Afternoon highs will be in the 80s once again.
