We have nearly rid ourselves of all of the clouds at 12:30 PM but temperatures are struggling to warm up behind the strong cold front that brought rain and a few thunderstorms to the area yesterday. Temperatures are only in the upper 30s to the mid-40s across the area, with Tuscaloosa coming in as the warm spot at 45 degrees. Alabaster, Anniston, and Auburn are all tied as the cold spots at 37 degrees. Birmingham was at 39 degrees.

Skies will continue to clear out and we should have maximum sunshine within the next hour or two all across Central Alabama, but temperatures will not warm up that much more. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 40s. For tonight, we’ll have mainly clear skies and mighty cold with lows dipping down into the mid-20s to the lower 30s.

Friday’s weather looks to be mostly sunny throughout the daytime hours but temperatures will remain on the cool side. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower 40s to the lower 50s across the area. Skies will remain mostly clear throughout the night and overnight hours with lows dipping into the 20s.

On this day back in 1916, the temperature at Browning MT plunged 100 degrees in just 24 hours, from 44 degrees above zero to 56 degrees below zero. It was a record 24-hour temperature drop for the U.S.
