NO NEED TO PANIC: Save that milk and bread run (unless you need milk and bread)… we are forecasting snow for North Alabama today, but let’s clearly state upfront that we expect no travel issues during the day other than the wet roads you would have on a rainy day. No need for any closing or delays because of weather.
TO THE NORTH: The NWS in Huntsville has issued a winter weather advisory for the counties in their CWA (county warning area) for the possibility of light accumulation on grassy areas. There might even be a spot where one inch gets down on grass, but the roads stay just wet with temperatures remaining well above freezing. The only potential issue up there is for some light and patchy bridge icing tonight with any lingering moisture as temperatures go below freezing.
DOWN THIS WAY: Snow flakes are possible as far south as I-59… Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Gadsden. But, we expect no significant accumulation and again no travel issues with temperatures hovering in the 37-41 degree range. Otherwise, the way will be cold and raw with low clouds and a chilly breeze.
TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: The weather will be nice and quiet with sunny cool days and clear cold nights. Highs will be generally in the 50-55 degree range, with lows between 25 and 32. It is possible the high Saturday will be only in the upper 40s thanks to a new surge of colder air dropping in from the north.
NEXT WEEK: The 00Z GFS keeps us dry through Wednesday, but other global runs have suggested some risk of rain by Tuesday night and Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas and details as we head down the stretch toward Christmas.
