Storms that are now crossing the state line and moving into Lamar, Pickens, and Sumter counties are strong but are below severe limits at this point. Plenty of cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with these storms as well as brief gusty winds up to 40 MPH.
If you are in the path of these storms, go indoors immediately. Winds may be strong enough to knock down weak limbs and branches. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to the parent storm to be struck by lightning.
