MUGGY DAYS: New day, but an old forecast. A moist airmass is in place, dewpoints are high, and with the daytime process showers and storms should begin to form during the midday hours. Winds aloft are light, so storms won’t move much, and like recent days some neighborhoods will see heavy amounts of rain. There will be some good intervals of sunshine, and the high today should be in the 88-91 degree range.

We do note precipitable water values are slightly lower today, and the air aloft is slight warmer, so just maybe we will see a slight decrease in the number of showers and storms.

THE WEEKEND: Same summer formula. Mixed sun and clouds tomorrow and Sunday with scattered showers and storms, mostly during the afternoon and evening hours. Some spots could see heavy rain, some spots with little or no rain due to the scattered nature of the storms. And, we should mention we can’t totally rule out a late night or morning shower. Highs around 90 degrees over the weekend.

NEXT WEEK: Things don’t change much early in the week, but the models are hinting at an amplified upper pattern late in the week, and if the ECMWF solution is correct it just might bring down some drier and slightly cooler air by Thursday or Friday. This, of course, rarely happens in August, but this has been a rather anomalous summer. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

AT THE BEACH: Looks pretty good through next week… an average of 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day on the coast, with the usual risk of a passing storm from time to time. Highs around 90 on the immediate coast, with low 90s inland. We note the sea water temperature yesterday afternoon reached 90 degrees at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab for one of the first times this season.

TROPICS: All remains quiet across the Atlantic basin. The GFS and other global models hint at increased activity soon, however.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
