Dry Pattern For Alabama Through Next Week
LOWER HUMIDITY, COOLER NIGHTS: As advertised, a much drier airmass now covers Alabama, and that will set the stage for an extended period of rain-free weather. Today will be sunny, humidity levels will be lower, and the high will be in the mid-80s. The average high for Birmingham on June 11 is 87. Continue reading
Drier Air Rolling Into North/West Alabama
DRY AIR ROLLING INTO THE STATE: A rare June cold front is pushing through North and West Alabama this afternoon; behind the front there is a fresh northwest breeze with rapidly falling viewpoints. Ahead of the front, showers and thunderstorms continue over parts of East and South Alabama. Storms there will be capable of producing strong gusty winds, but so far they have remained below severe limits as of mid-afternoon. Continue reading
A Few Strong Storms Today; Much Drier Tomorrow
FRONT ON THE WAY: A rare June cold front will push into Alabama today. Much Drier Air Arrives Tomorrow Night
RADAR CHECK: A number of showers and thunderstorms have developed in the moist, tropical environment across Alabama this afternoon. No severe storms, but the showers are very efficient rain producers, and some temporary flooding is possible over the next few hours. Showers will fade late tonight as the air cool and becomes more stable. Continue reading
Very Humid Air In Place; Scattered Showers/Storms Later Today
MUGGY MORNING: Temperatures are in the 70s, dewpoints are in the 70s across Alabama early this morning as a very moist, tropical airmass remains in place. The radar is quiet as the day begins, but scattered showers and thunderstorms will form again this afternoon and tonight. Odds of any one spot getting wet today are around 60 percent, and the high will be in the mid to upper 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. Continue reading

CRISTOBAL WEAKENS TO A DEPRESSION: Cristobal is inland this morning over Southwest Mississippi and has weakened to a depression. Only Isolated Showers For North/Central Alabama This Weekend; Watching Cristobal
RADAR CHECK: There are multiple clusters of showers and strong thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon, but as usual it is not raining everywhere. Away from the showers, we are seeing some low 90s over the western side of the state, but some communities have cooled down into the 70s because of clouds and rain. SPC maintains a “marginal risk” of severe storms for the northern 2/3 of Alabama tonight… heavier thunderstorms could produce strong winds and small hail. Continue reading
Hot, Humid, A Few Showers; Eyes On Cristobal
RADAR CHECK: A disturbance in the upper atmosphere is producing an area of showers over the northern quarter of Alabama early this morning; those showers end a little later in the day. Then, during the heat of the afternoon, we expect more random, scattered showers and storms to form across the state. These should be pretty widely spaced today… otherwise, the sky will be partly sunny with a high in the 88-91 degree range. Continue reading
