Strong/Severe Storms This Evening; Dry Air Returns Tomorrow
QUIET AFTERNOON: The big band of rain and storms that produced some flash flooding issues over the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama this morning has moved north of the state, and most of Alabama is dry this afternoon… we note just a few isolated showers over the northeast counties of the state. Temperatures are in the upper 70s and low 80s, and we await a cold front coming in tonight that will trigger strong to severe thunderstorms. Continue reading
Strong/Severe Storms Possible Late Today/Tonight
ACTIVE WEATHER: Showers and a few thunderstorms are moving northeast across Alabama early this morning as a warm front lifts northward; heaviest rain is over the northwest part of the state. The middle of the day should be fairly quiet, but we have potential for strong to severe thunderstorms over the northern half of the state late this afternoon and early tonight. SPC has defined a slight risk (level 2/5) of severe storms as far south as Millport, Birmingham, and Jacksonville… a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) is up down to Greensboro, Clanton, and Roanoke. Strong/Severe Storms Possible Tomorrow Evening
WET MONDAY: Rain, mostly light to moderate, continues across parts of North/Central Alabama this afternoon. The sky is cloudy, and temperatures are mostly in the 60s. On the positive side, SPC has removed the “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for today and tonight. Rain will diminish this evening, although a few scattered showers could linger through the night. Continue reading
Unsettled Through Tomorrow Night; A Few Strong/Severe Storms
STORMY START: Rain and thunderstorms are moving through the northern half of Alabama early this morning; the storm produced hail and strong winds over parts of Fayette and Walker counties. As I write this they are weakening as they move into the Birmingham metro. Additional showers and storms are likely today, and by this afternoon the stronger storms will be over the central counties of the state, where SPC has defined a low end, “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms. Rain At Times Through Tonight; Dry Tomorrow
RADAR CHECK: Showers cover much of North and West Alabama this afternoon; we note a few thunderstorms over the Tennessee Valley, but they are well below severe limits. Still, SPC maintains a low end, “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for North Alabama through the evening hours. There could be a stronger storm with small hail and gusty winds, but the overall risk is very low as the main dynamic support is lifting far to the north of Alabama. Continue reading
Rain/Storms Arrive Later Today; Cooler Tomorrow
RAIN ON THE WAY: A weakening band of showers is over the northwest corner of Alabama early this morning, but most of the state is dry with temperatures in the 60s at daybreak. The sky will be cloudy day with a high in the 70s. Continue reading

WARM MARCH DAY: Temperatures are mostly in the 78-83 degree range across Alabama this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. We note a few spotty showers over the western half of the state, but most communities remain dry. Continue reading

ANOTHER QUIET DAY: Temperatures will rise into the 78-83 degree range across most of Alabama this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. We can’t rule out a few showers, but they should be few and far between. The average high for Birmingham on March 19 is 68. Continue reading
Only Isolated Showers Through Tomorrow; Cooler By The Weekend
RADAR CHECK: We have a few small, isolated showers on radar across Alabama this afternoon, otherwise the weather is dry with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures are well up in the 70s; a few spots have reached 80 degrees. Any showers tonight will remain few and far between as the really active weather remains well to the west of Alabama.
