Hot August Weather Continues; A Few Scattered Storms
DOG DAYS: The weather in August in Alabama is almost always hot and humid, and that is what we will be dealing with around here for the foreseeable future. Look for partly sunny days through the weekend with the usual daily round of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. SCATTERED STRONG STORMS: Radar shows scattered, strong thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon… the more numerous ones are south of I-20, and are producing strong gusty winds and lots of lightning as they move southeast. SUN, HEAT, STORMS: Our classic August weather pattern will continue through the weekend. Hot, humid, partly sunny days with “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. RADAR CHECK: Scattered thunderstorms are increasing across Alabama this afternoon; most of them so far are over the northeast counties of the state. Other storms over Arkansas and West Tennessee will move into the state this evening; all of them are moving to the southeast. SPC maintains a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for roughly the northern half of Alabama through tonight… some of the heavier storms will be capable of producing strong, gusty straight line winds. Look for a good supply of sunshine, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will form this afternoon, mostly over the southern half of the state where moisture is deeper. RADAR CHECK: Most of the scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama are over the southern counties of the state this afternoon, south of a boundary set up by a large rain mass over the northern part of the state last night. Showers are moving slowly to the southeast, and they will fade away once the sun goes down.
