Humid With A Mix Of Sun and Storms
MUGGY MAY DAYS: A broad disturbance in the Northeast Gulf of Mexico will keep a humid, tropical airmass over Alabama today and tomorrow; we will forecast a mix of sun and clouds both days with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Most of the showers will come from about 2:00 until 11:00 p.m., but in this kind of airmass we can’t rule out the chance of a late night or morning shower (we have a few on radar this morning). Highs will be mostly in the mid 80s; the average high for Birmingham on May 16 is 82. Continue reading
Humid With Sun and Showers Through The Weekend
RADAR CHECK: As forecast this morning, we have scattered showers and storms on radar across Alabama this afternoon; they are moving southwest today around top of the circulation in the Northeast Gulf of Mexico. Heavier storms are producing heavy rain and gusty winds, but they are below severe levels. These showers and storms will fade away later tonight. Continue reading
Showers Return; Lower Heat Levels
WATCHING THE GULF: A broad low in the Northeast Gulf of Mexico is drifting northward, and will push deeper moisture up into Alabama in coming days. Odds are fairly low (30 percent) this becomes a tropical or sub-tropical storm, but the impact will be same one way or another; higher rain chances for the Southeast U.S. this week and into the weekend. Continue reading
Higher Rain Chances, Lower Heat Levels Ahead

To the north, Huntsville has a new record high for the date with 94. Nothing on radar over the northern half of the state; for Birmingham today is the 18th consecutive day with no measurable rain (based on data at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport). Continue reading
Still Hot/Dry Today; Rain Chances Return Tomorrow
EYES ON THE GULF OF MEXICO: While today will be another hot, dry day for the northern half of Alabama with a high in the low 90s, a disturbance in the eastern Gulf of Mexico will bring a risk of scattered showers and storms to the southern third of the state this afternoon. Continue reading

Hot Weekend for Central Alabama
Hot and dry weekend in store for Central Alabama as highs dance around the 90-degree mark today and Sunday. A weak upper low will bring unsettled weather and rain to much of the Southeast US from Tuesday into the end of the week, but that also spells some cooler highs as we dip back into the 80s. Continue reading
