Potential For Heavy Rain/Severe Storms By Friday/Saturday
SUNNY, COOL DAY AHEAD: An upper trough brought some light rain to the northern half of Alabama during the overnight hours; that rain is now in Georgia, and a new surge of dry air is pushing into the state. PLEASANT AFTERNOON: Temperatures are mostly in the 60s across Alabama this afternoon with a good supply of sunshine. Some Light Rain Tonight; Severe Storms Possible Saturday
QUIET THROUGH MID-WEEK: We will forecast a mix of sun and clouds across Alabama today; temperatures will warm nicely, and most places will see a high in the low 60s this afternoon. Clouds thicken tonight, and some light rain is possible after midnight as a disturbance in the upper atmosphere passes through the region. Moisture is very limited, and rain amounts should under a tenth of an inch for most communities where rain falls. Continue reading

Periods Of Rain Today; Drier Air Returns Tomorrow Afternoon
STILL WET: While rain intensity won’t be as high as yesterday, we are still expecting periods of rain across Alabama today and tonight with an upper trough approaching from the west. Additional rain amounts of 1/2 inch are expected for North Alabama today, with around one inch for some southeast counties. A few stronger storms are possible across Southeast Alabama, where SPC maintains a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms. Continue reading
Flood Threat Continues; Strong Storms Possible Over West Alabama
A flood watch remains in effect for that part of Alabama along and north of I-59, but no doubt we could see some flooding issues a little to the south of that zone as well, across the central part of the state. Additional rain amounts of 1-3 inches are likely over the next 24 hours. The ground is saturated, and it won’t take much more rain for flooding to begin. Continue reading
Widespread, Soaking Rains For Alabama
WET IS THE WORD: As a storm system slowly approaches Alabama, we expect a widespread, soaking rain event for the state over the next 36 hours. The heaviest rain is expected along and north of I-59, where a flood watch remains in effect (north of a line from Livingston to Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Gadsden to Weiss Lake). Continue reading
