Wet, Cold, Windy; Some Snow For North Alabama
SNOW: As cold air deepens over North Alabama, rain will most likely change to light snow before ending late this afternoon and tonight. The change could come as early as 4:00 to 6:00 over the northwest corner of the state, but the main window comes from 6:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. Snow accumulation potential will be limited by the warm ground, but some grassy areas could see 1/2 to 1 inch in spots north of U.S. 278 (north of a line from Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden). Roads will be just wet tonight with no travel impact; surface temperatures will be in the mid 30s. Continue reading
Cold, Wet Day Tomorrow; Some Snow Over Far North Alabama
SNOW??? As cold air rushes into North Alabama, there is a window for some light snow over the northern quarter of the state late tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. Best chance of seeing a few snowflakes will be north of U.S. 278 (Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden), and best chance of light accumulation will be north of the Tennessee River, especially over far Northwest Alabama around the Shoals. Even there, amounts should be under one inch, and mainly confined to grassy areas. With a warm ground, and surface temperatures in the mid 30s, we just don’t expect much impact from the light snow over North Alabama tomorrow night. There could be a few icy spots by daybreak Wednesday when temperatures drop a little below freezing, but most bridges should be dry by then. Continue reading
