Showers/Storms A Bit More Numerous Tomorrow/Wednesday
TYPICAL SUMMER AFTERNOON: It is a hot, humid day across Alabama with temperatures mostly in the low to mid 90s, along with random, scattered showers and thunderstorms showing little movement. A few spots are getting heavy amounts of rain, but most places are bone dry. Showers will fade away after sunset as the cools and becomes more stable. Continue reading
Hot, Humid, A Few Afternoon Storms
CLASSIC SUMMER WEATHER: This is the time of the year when our weather doesn’t change much. Days are hot and humid with a partly sunny sky, and during the peak of the daytime heating we see a handful of showers and thunderstorms in random, scattered locations. That will be the situation this week across Alabama; odds of any one spot getting wet this afternoon are around one in five, and mostly between 1:00 and 9:00 p.m. Continue reading
Hot Summer Weather Through Next Week; Only Isolated Afternoon Storms
HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME: Temperatures are mostly in the low to mid 90s across Alabama this afternoon with a mostly sunny sky. Heat index values so far remain below heat advisory criteria level (they need to be at 105 for that), and we see no rain on radar at mid-afternoon. We do note a few showers and storms over far northern Tennessee, but those most likely won’t make it down into Alabama. Tonight will be fair and humid with lows in the 70s. Continue reading
Showers Remain Scarce; Hot/Humid Through Next Week
NEW DAY, OLD FORECAST: We are in the core of summer, and this is the time of the year when you can pretty much say “hot, humid, and the risk of an afternoon storm in a few spots” and be right every day. Look for a high in the mid 90s today, tomorrow, and Sunday with a partly to mostly sunny sky each day. A few isolated, “pop up” afternoon and evening storms are possible, but they should be few and far between thanks to the ridge aloft over the Deep South. Classic weather for late July in Alabama. Continue reading
Highs In The 90s Through The Weekend
HOT, DRY DAY: A radar check shows no rain across Alabama at mid-afternoon and very few cumulus clouds. Temperatures are in the upper 80s and low 90s, a little below forecast values, and nobody is griping about that. Tonight will be mostly clear with a low in the 70s. Continue reading
Hot, Humid Summer Weather Continues
STILL HOT, STILL HUMID: Alabama’s weather will be pretty much what you expect in mid to late July; we are forecast hot, humid days through the weekend with just a handful of isolated showers and thunderstorms around during the afternoon and evening hours. There is a surface front north of the state today that might bring strong storms to parts of Tennessee, but that front has no chance of moving into Alabama thanks to a strong upper ridge overhead. Continue reading
Active Storms Over South Alabama This Afternoon
RADAR CHECK: We actually have fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms over the southern half of Alabama this afternoon; some spots have received heavy amounts of rain. Where rain is falling, temperatures are in the 70s. However, for North/Central Alabama, showers are very hard to find, with temperatures mostly in the low to mid 90s. Continue reading
Highs Hold In The 90s Through The Weekend
JULY IN ALABAMA: It is the time of the year when the weather doesn’t change much. Say “hot and humid with a few isolated afternoon storms” and you will be right on the money. That is our situation for at least the next seven days as an upper high holds over the Deep South keeping the main westerly winds aloft (the jet stream) well to the north. Continue reading
Hot, Humid Summer Weather Continues; A Few Isolated Storms
HOT SUMMER WEATHER: Temperatures are mostly in the low to mid 90s across Alabama this afternoon with a partly to mostly sunny sky. We note a few isolated storms, mainly over the southern half of the state. Those isolated thunderstorms will end this evening, and the sky will be mostly fair overnight. Continue reading
Hot Humid Days; Not Many Showers
HEAT LEVELS RISING: Yesterday’s official high in Birmingham was 90 degrees, one degree below the average of 91. But today we expect a high in the 92-95 degree range as heat levels tick up a bit. The sky will be mostly sunny, and like yesterday any afternoon showers will be very hard to find over the northern half of the state. Continue reading
