Sun, Heat, Scattered Storms

SUMMERTIME WEATHER: The weather pattern looks very typical for late June and early July in Alabama this week. The main jet stream will remain well to the north of the state, and we are in a very humid, tropical airmass. Each day this week we expect a partly sunny sky, and as the summer heat develops during the day, the air becomes buoyant by afternoon, opening the door for showers and thunderstorms to develop. Heat Levels Rising; Very Few Showers Through Sunday

HOTTER AFTERNOONS: Heat levels will be creeping up in coming days as an upper ridge builds across the Deep South. We project a high in the 87-90 degree range today, followed by 90-93 degree heat over the weekend. Look for mostly sunny days and fair nights; an afternoon shower or two can’t be ruled out, but odds of any one spot getting wet are only 10 percent tomorrow and Sunday. Continue reading →

The high Saturday will be in the low 90s over West Alabama, and in the 80s east of I-65. The chance of rain will increase statewide Sunday as the upper ridge breaks down and moisture levels rise.
