Lower Heat Levels In The Days Ahead; Storms Tomorrow
RADAR CHECK: On this hot humid summer day we have scattered showers and storms mostly over the eastern half of Alabama; they are producing heavy rain, gusty winds, and lots of lightning as they move southeast. Continue reading
Drier Air To Arrive This Weekend
HOT, HUMID SUMMER DAY: Today looks like a classic mid-summer day for Alabama. Hot, muggy, a few storms in random places this afternoon and early tonight. We expect a high in the 92-95 degree range, and the chance of any one spot seeing a storm this afternoon is about one in four. Most of the showers and storms will come between 1:00 and 8:00 p.m. Continue reading
Hot, Humid Today; Strong Storms Late This Week
HOT, MUGGY SUMMER WEATHER: The upper ridge will strengthen across Alabama today, meaning highs up in the low to mid 90s with just a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and early tonight. Pretty much the same story tomorrow; the high will be in the 92-95 degree range with a few pop up storms by afternoon, but there is a chance organized storms could reach far North Alabama late in the day and tomorrow night ahead of a surface front. Continue reading
Showers/Storms To Slowly Increase
HOT MUGGY SUMMER AFTERNOON: Temperatures are mostly in the mid 90s across Alabama this afternoon, and with high dewpoints heat index values are over 100 in most spots. The NWS expanded the heat advisory to include more of Alabama this afternoon… mostly the central and western counties. Continue reading
Heat Levels Slowly Back Off Over The Weekend
The heat will headline the forecast again today across our state; for North/Central Alabama, highs will be mostly in the mid 90s, with upper 90s to the north over the Tennessee Valley, where a “heat advisory” has been issued by the NWS Huntsville. The best chance of scattered showers and storms this afternoon and early tonight will be along and south of I-20. Continue reading
Heat Levels Come Down By The Weekend
An upper high, anchored over the nation’s mid-section which represents the center of the hot air, has expanded into Alabama, and that will keep afternoon highs up in the mid 90s today. Combine that with high dew points and that will make for another very uncomfortable day. A few showers and storms will form this afternoon, but they will be widely scattered, like yesterday. Continue reading
Hot Summer Weather
RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers and storms are very isolated across Alabama this afternoon; they aren’t moving much, and will fade after sunset. Continue reading
Heat Levels Creeping Up
HOT SUMMER WEATHER: An upper ridge over the nation’s mid-section is expanding, and that will bring the hottest weather so far this summer to Alabama in coming days. We project a high in the low 90s today, followed by mid 90s tomorrow and Friday. Up until now our hottest day of the year was on June 15 when the high was 93. Continue reading
Hot Summer Days Ahead
QUIET AFTERNOON: As expected, showers and storms have really thinned out across the northern half of Alabama this afternoon. Isolated storms are drifting to the southwest, and will dissipate once the sun goes down. Temperatures are mostly in the 88-92 degree range with a partly sunny sky. Continue reading
Rising Heat Levels In Coming Days
UPPER RIDGE TO STRENGTHEN: Let’s say up front that we will have some risk of an afternoon storm every day through the weekend, but they will gradually become fewer in number each day for the rest of the week as an upper ridge begins to build across the Deep South. Continue reading
