Wet At Times This Weekend
SCATTERED SHOWERS TODAY: The radar is quiet early this morning; no rain across Alabama and most of Mississippi; temperatures are mostly in the 60s. The sky will feature more clouds than sun today, and scattered showers and storms will develop this afternoon. But, the rain won’t be as widespread as yesterday, and severe storms are not forecast. In fact, a decent part of the day should be dry. The high this afternoon will be in the low 80s. Continue reading
Dry Air Returns To Alabama Tomorrow
RADAR CHECK: We have a fairly large rain mass over Central Alabama at mid-afternoon; there have been a few rumbles of thunder, but the air is cool and stable and there is no risk of severe storms over the northern two-thirds of Alabama. A few severe storms remain possible along the I-10 corridor in far Southwest Alabama and the Florida Panhandle this evening, but so far the storms have been generally behaved. Continue reading
Showers/Storms Return Later Today
RAIN RETURNS: Showers and thunderstorms will return to Alabama today and tonight as the next upper air wave to the west approaches. At daybreak, a band of severe storms is moving through western Mississippi; those should weaken as they move east of I-55. That decaying band of showers will enter West Alabama later this morning. Continue reading
Much Cooler, Light Rain At Times
COOLER, SOME LIGHT RAIN: A deep, cold core upper low will move through Alabama today. Heavier thunderstorms over Southeast Alabama are moving out of the state, but we will still forecast periods of light rain today. We might even hear of some small hail with light rain showers this afternoon due to the cold air aloft associated with the upper low. Temperatures won’t get out of the 50s today… next time we have a day this cool will probably come in October. Continue reading
Severe Storms Possible Sunday
RADAR CHECK: A few scattered showers are over Central Alabama this afternoon, but most of the state is rain-free despite a mostly cloudy sky and a stalled front over the northwest counties. North of the front, temperatures are only in the low 60s in places like Hamilton and Haleyville, but to the south we are seeing mid to upper 70s. Continue reading
Showers Today; Severe Storms Possible Sunday Morning
A FEW SHOWERS TODAY: A cold front is creeping into Northwest Alabama early this morning, and we have a few showers ahead of the front. Moisture is limited, and there is little upper support, but we will maintain the chance of showers across Alabama today… otherwise the sky will be mostly cloudy with a high in the 70s. I would not call it a “rainy day”, but just be ready for a passing shower from time to time. Continue reading
Lingering Showers This Morning; Stormy Weekend Ahead
RADAR CHECK: Lingering showers continue across parts of Central Alabama this morning as an upper trough is moving through the state. Most of the rain should be over by midday, but a few stray afternoon showers aren’t totally out of the question. Otherwise, today will be cloudy and mild with a high in the mid to upper 70s. Continue reading
Showers Today; Dry Tomorrow/Wednesday
SHOWERS POSSIBLE TODAY: Today will be mostly cloudy across Alabama with the potential for a few passing rain showers thanks to a nearly stationary front across the state, and a weak upper disturbance passing through. Rain amounts, most likely, won’t be too heavy, and there is no risk of severe weather. There will be a big temperature variation due to the front; North Alabama will see highs in the 50s.. 60s for Central Alabama, and 70s for the southern third of the state. Continue reading
Showers/Storms At Times Through Tomorrow Night
RADAR CHECK: There is a band of showers over the northern third of Alabama this afternoon, but nothing too widespread or heavy. Elsewhere, there is some filtered sun over the southern two-thirds of the state, and temperatures are in the 60s and 70s. We will maintain the chance of a few showers tonight; temperatures won’t drop below 60 degrees for most communities. Continue reading
Showers Today; Strong/Severe Storms Possible Over The Weekend
MOISTURE LEVELS RISING: Today will be a cloudy day across the great state of Alabama, and we will deal with a few passing showers through tonight. Not an “all day” kind of rain, and we probably won’t hear much thunder. The high this afternoon will be in the mid 60s. Continue reading
