ABC 33/40 television was not on air during a tornado warning for Jefferson County this morning (between 3:39 and 4:00). I apologize, and I take the blame. Don’t send that nasty e-mail to Jason, send it to me.
The blog had it covered incredibly well, with all night updates from J.B., Tim Coleman, and Bill Murray. We simply missed it on the TV side.
Today new policies will be put into place that should ensure this doesn’t happen again.
We are all family, and anytime a family member has a concern, it needs to be communicated and addressed. I have read many of the blog comments, and the e-mail messages in the short time I have had this morning. We welcome the constructive criticism; but the e-mail messages laced with profanity or personal attacks were sent to the trash.
This is one of my classic 4:25 a.m. to 11:55 p.m. days; I am on the road to Haleyville now to speak to the 6th graders, and we have Storm Alert 2008 tonight. But, rest assured, you have been heard, and a new plan is going into place so this should not happen again. We run long schedules most folks would not believe, but that is no excuse for an office with four meteorologists. We will get this fixed.
I have more to say on this, but I can’t type and drive!
