SUNNY APRIL DAY: We are enjoying a bright, sunny day across Alabama with temperatures in the 70s this afternoon. Tonight will be clear with lows generally in the 50s.

Alabama’s weather will remain unusually calm for the next seven days as an upper ridge keeps the primary rain/storm producing systems north and west of here. Most Alabama communities will rise into the low to mid 80s tomorrow with a good supply of sunshine.

The weekend will be warm and dry with highs in the 80s, lows generally in the 50s.

NEXT WEEK: No change for the rest half of the week. While an active severe weather pattern is setting up west and north of Alabama, we will stay warm and dry for the first half of the week. A few showers are possible late in the week on Friday, but the latest global model data suggests rain amounts will be light. See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1947: A violent tornado family traveled 170 miles through Texas and Oklahoma, killing 181 people and devastating the town of Woodward, OK.
