We were overwhelmed at the good wishes for Little Miss Molly after yesterday morning’s vicious dog attack on her. We received over 150 concerns about her. We deeply appreciate every one. I promised that I would post an update this morning on her condition.

Here is a brief update:

Molly was pretty much unresponsive all day yesterday. Had no interest whatsoever in a ballgame (which is understandable). She slept much of the day and spent a lot of the day hiding under the bed, which is her normal safe place during thunderstorms.

Took her out for a brief walk late last night, but kept my eyes peeled for any loose dogs. Her abdomen was very bruised last night, but it looks better this morning and she is a little more responsive. The vet told us it would take about two or three days to make sure she didn’t have an infection. But we are giving her a strong antibiotic to prevent that.

For the rest of my life, I will never forget the terror stricken, blood curdling scream from Little Miss Molly as she was lying on her back with the larger dog continuing a vicious attack. I was boxing and kicking the attack dog with all my might, but he would not turn loose. I finally picked both dogs up and rammed by right hand into the attack dog to try to pry his jaws apart so Molly could get loose. I realized this morning I have six bite marks on my right hand, but no puncture wounds. I also lost most of two fingernails. I also strained my back, but I will get over that.

During the big fight, I had no thoughts whatsoever for my safety. I was determined to go all out to save Little Miss Molly’s life and I am afraid if it had lasted three or four minutes longer, we would not have her today.

Again, thanks to all for the tremendous best wishes. I will do another update in my regular column in the 7-day planner this afternoon.
