It was a weekend to remember in Alabama Weather!

Early on this Monday morning, snow was still in the picture across Extreme North Alabama including some moderate to heavy snow over the Extreme north.

Snow has diminished greatly in the Birmingham area but the Winter Storm Warning is still in effect into today.

We have widespread road closures and improvement today will be slow because the temperature will struggle to get above freezing. Numerous roads are impassable.

There were numerous accidents in West Alabama Sunday afternoon. That problem came eastward as the snow advanced and plagued the Birmingham Metro area Sunday evening. Many of the accidents involved multiple vehicles.

This was a storm to remember because of the “thundersnow” Sunday evening. That is a rare happening in this corner of the world but in some of the heavier snow periods there was lightning and thunder! Most of us probably have not experienced that since the “Blizzard of ’93”

One of the heavier snow totals so far was 8 inches on Monte Sano in Huntsville. Later today, I hope to post a roundup of snow amounts. If you would like to have your snow depth included, please enter it in the comment section below.

Headed for a bit of sleep!
