Looking warm and dry for the weekend for Central Alabama. We have a little fog in valleys and along bodies of water this morning, but the fog should mix out fairly quickly with daybreak. Look for highs today to climb into the lower and middle 80s.
Auburn hosts Western Carolina at 1:00 pm and the sky will be mostly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees; lower 80s are possible by halftime. Alabama is on the road visiting the Kentucky Wildcats this evening with a 6:00 pm kickoff. The sky will be clear with a temperature of about 68 degrees to start the game falling into the 50s by the final whistle.
The weather will also cooperate for Jacksonville State’s homecoming game against Tennessee State at 3:00 pm with lots of sun and 81 degrees at kickoff; temperatures will fall into the 70s during the second half.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Perfect weather through Sunday with sunny warm days and fair cool nights from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Highs in the low 80s; lows in the 60s. Should be hard to find a decent cloud in the sky this weekend during the National Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores. The sea water temperature this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab stood at 75 degrees.
A weak front will wash out on Sunday as it approaches from the northwest as upper support out runs it. The upper ridge weakens but holds on and then builds back stronger Monday and Tuesday. Surface high pressure to our northeast is likely to produce a wedge on Tuesday keeping our temperature down somewhat with highs in the upper 70s.
A strong short wave trough coming out of the Rockies on Wednesday and Thursday promises to drive a front into the area with showers likely to occur from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. Highs in the 70s due to clouds and showers. The trough sharpens up on Friday promising a shot of cooler air, but the upper trough shears out to the northeast fairly quickly with the front stalling out along the Gulf coast. Highs for Friday may struggle to reach 70. Some model differences evident here, but we are verging on voodoo country, so somewhat expected to see differences that far out.
Long range pattern continues to show a flattened ridge over the eastern US until a sizable trough sets up around the end of October which could bring some of the coolest air of the Fall to the eastern US.
In the tropics, NHC is watching one area of disturbed weather in the South Central Atlantic which is projected to move west-northwest over the next several days and will likely track northeast of the Leeward Islands.
