WARM APRIL DAYS: Highs will be in the low to mid 80s across most all of Alabama through Saturday with partly sunny days and fair nights. Each day a few small, isolated showers or storms could pop up, but the chance of any one spot getting wet remains small; 15-25 percent. A summer-like pattern.

EASTER SUNDAY: A cold front will pass through Alabama Sunday along with a band of rain and thunderstorms. Rain amounts for most communities will be 1/2 to 1 inch… highest chance of rain for the northern half of the state will come during the morning hours, then shifting into South Alabama during the afternoon.

The main dynamic forcing will be well to the north of Alabama, and with meager instability at this point the risk of severe storms looks low. But, of course, we will watch any system in early April closely.

Highs drop into the 68-72 degree range over North Alabama Sunday, with upper 70s for the southern counties.

NEXT WEEK: The week at this point looks rain-free with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs mostly in the 70s, lows in the 40s and 50s. While there could be a few colder spots across North Alabama with some light frost early Monday, there is still no sign of any major late season frost/freeze threat through the week for the Deep South… See the video briefing for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1960: TIROS I, the very first weather satellite, was launched from Cape Canaveral.

ON THIS DATE IN 1974: A tornado tore through the western and northern part of Huntsville, killing one person. The tornado produced its most severe impact to the Sherwood Park subdivision on the northern outskirts of Huntsville. There, winds tore off roofs and caused some walls to collapse. The one fatality came in a mobile home. This was a prelude to the 1974 Super Outbreak less than 48 hours later from a separate storm system; over 80 would be killed in Alabama from that event April 3/4.
