For several days, we’ve been telling people about the extreme cold that was coming our way. Now we can really watch it unfold.
To see how dramatic the temperature change is – and will be for us – just look upstream at the weather observations. The front passed through Memphis between 11:54 am and 12:54 pm, and the temperature dropped to 43 from the high of the day at 52. A bit further upstream, the observation at Jonesboro, AR, shows a similar pattern. The front passed Jonesboro around 10 am when they recorded 49 degrees, their high for the day, and just three hours later at 1 pm they were reporting freezing rain and a temperature down to 28 degrees.
We don’t see fronts of this magnitude too often, so it is interesting to watch upstream as the Arctic air makes its way toward the southeast.
