WeatherBrains episode 181 is now online.
This week’s guest is Lt. Col. Roy Deatherage of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (Hurricane Hunters) based out of Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Roy discusses the demands of a typical Hurricane Hunter mission, how Hurricane Hunters fly through storms to gather information and what his most memorable missions have been.
He answers a myriad of other questions as well about the program, how it started and whether it will ever become obsolete.
In the email bag, Tim Crum from NOAA’s Radar Operations Center answers a question from a listener about an interesting radar image from the Billings MT radar.
Next week’s guest is Dr. Thomas Schmidlin from Kent State University who authored the provocative paper about automobiles and tornadoes.
Episode 183 will feature Tony Panos from WUSA in Washington D.C. Tony believes that the internet has ruined weather.
And on August 3rd, our guest will be veteran storm chaser and all around gentleman, Dave Hoadley.
